Police Arrest Portable In Kwara For Following Petition By Saheed Osupa

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has been arrested by police in Kwara State over a petition filed by fellow musician Saheed Osupa.

The arrest took place on Saturday after Saheed Osupa filed a petition accusing Portable of defamation, threats, incitement, and damaging his reputation through insulting language.

According to Osupa, Portable’s words were not only abusive but could also stir up violence.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kwara police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed that Portable was taken into custody and brought to Ilorin for questioning.

Portable’s statement was recorded in the presence of lawyers from both sides, and he remains in police custody as he awaits legal proceedings.

The police explained that they obtained a valid arrest warrant from a magistrate court in Ilorin after reviewing the seriousness of the allegations.

The statement reads, “The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that following a petition received from one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as “Osupa,” against Mr. Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, also known in the entertainment industry as “Portable”.

“Police detectives of Kwara Command have taken lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the allegations.

“The petition borders on serious allegations which includes criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and the use of abusive and insulting words.

‘’In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.

“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs. He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigations.

“Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties.”

The tension between the two artistes began last month when Portable’s song was taken down from Apple Music and Spotify due to copyright issues.

It was claimed that the singer had used a phrase closely tied to Saheed Osupa’s musical style.

Things escalated when Portable lashed out at Osupa online, calling him names like “big for nothing.”

The insults quickly went viral, drawing criticism from fans, forcing Portable to apologize, saying he let his emotions get the better of him.

However, Saheed Osupa vowed to deal with him, despite Portable’s public apology over their ongoing feud.
