According to Channels TV, locals in Bunigari, Gujba Local Government Area said the terrorists struck the 27 Task Force Brigade in the early hours of Saturday.
“It was in the early hours of today, around 1.00am we heard a heavy gun battle at the 27 Task Force Brigade which is unusual to the test firing by the military. We later confirmed it was suspected insurgents,” a resident said.
A military source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, also confirmed the attack but said full details were still unclear as of the time of reporting.
In recent weeks, insurgents have stepped up attacks, targeting military posts, destroying infrastructure like a culvert on Goniri Road, and kidnapping people along the Damaturu-Bunigari-Biu highway—leaving communities in fear.
The incident comes just after regional leaders met to discuss fresh strategies for tackling the 15-year security crisis in the North-East.
