The 27-year-old was named Africa’s top player in December, becoming the second Nigerian in a row to win the award after Victor Osimhen took the title in 2023.
Lookman earned the honour after a standout 2023/24 season with Italian club Atalanta and the Nigerian national team. He netted 17 goals and made 11 assists across all competitions that season.
One of his biggest highlights was scoring a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, helping Atalanta claim their first-ever European trophy.
He also made a big impact at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, scoring three goals and helping Nigeria reach the final.
Ademola Lookman was named among the tournament’s best eleven players, alongside Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong.
Lookman’s latest trip to Nigeria follows the end of the 2024/25 season, during which he scored 20 goals in all competitions and helped Atalanta finish third in Italy’s Serie A.
KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu previously congratulated Ademola Lookman for winning the 2024 CAF Men’s African Footballer of the Year.
