Tottenham Sack Ange Postecoglou As Coach Two Weeks After Winning Europa League

Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou, just two weeks after he led the club to a Europa League victory.

The announcement was made on Friday, marking a surprising end to Postecoglou’s time in North London despite helping the team lift their first trophy in 27 years with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final.

While the Australian coach brought European success, his domestic performance told a different story.

Spurs ended the Premier League season in 17th place — their worst-ever finish — prompting the club to reassess his future.

In a statement, Tottenham said the decision followed a detailed review of the season’s overall performance.

“Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties,” the club said.

The club said that while Postecoglou’s efforts in Europe earned him a place in Spurs’ history, their goal is to compete strongly in all competitions, which requires a new direction.

The club thanked Postecoglou for his contributions and confirmed he would always be welcome at Tottenham.

“It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond.

“This has been one of the toughest decisions we have had to make and is not a decision that we have taken lightly, nor one we have rushed to conclude.

“We have made what we believe is the right decision to give us the best chance of success going forward, not the easy decision.

“We have a talented, young squad, and Ange has given us a great platform to build upon. We should like to express our gratitude to him. We wish him well for the future – he will always be welcome back at our home.

“News on the appointment of a new Head Coach will be announced in due course,” the statement added.

Tottenham, who ended the league season with just 38 points, are set to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13.

KanyiDaily recalls that in June 2023, Tottenham Hotspur appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager on a four-year contract.
