Dino Melaye made the announcement on Thursday in a resignation letter he shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The letter, dated July 4, 2025, was addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
In the letter, Melaye said he could no longer be part of a party that lacks the strength and direction needed to move Nigeria forward.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” the letter partly reads.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”
Dino Melaye, who was the PDP’s flagbearer in the 2023 Kogi governorship election, said his withdrawal follows a period of soul-searching and dissatisfaction with the party’s current direction.
He added that he could no longer, in good conscience, associate himself with the party’s goals or strategies.
“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda”, the letter continued.
In the letter, he also made it clear that his resignation is total and immediate, asking party officials to treat it as a full exit from all party structures and responsibilities.
“In view of the above, please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect”, the letter added.
Melaye thanked the party for the chance to serve during his time as a member, though he didn’t mention any future political plans.
“Thank you for the opportunity to serve under the platform during my period of membership,” the letter concluded.
KanyiDaily recalls that in 2024, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suspended Dino Melaye due to alleged anti-party activities.
