Former President Muhammadu Buhari Buried In Daura [Video]

Former President, Muhammadu Buhari has been buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

The town was filled with sorrow as family, friends, and well-wishers gathered to say their final goodbyes.

As if reflecting the mood, the skies over Daura turned grey and eventually opened up, drenching the ground during the emotional farewell.

At around 5:50 p.m., Buhari’s body – wrapped in the green and white colours of the Nigerian flag – was gently lowered into the grave.

The former president’s children, close relatives, and associates stood nearby, mourning in silence.

A full military ceremony was held in his honour, including gun salutes and ceremonial music, as a final tribute to the former Commander-in-Chief.

Islamic burial rites were also performed before the interment.

Daura, a quiet farming town in northwestern Nigeria, was not only Buhari’s final resting place but also where he was born.

Known to many in the North as “Mai Gaskiya,” meaning “the honest one” in Hausa, Buhari held a special place in the hearts of his supporters.

His leadership spanned nearly a decade, having served first as a military head of state and later as an elected president, making him one of the longest-serving leaders in Nigeria’s history.

Among the dignitaries present were his widow, Aisha Buhari; President Bola Tinubu; Vice President Kashim Shettima; former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; business magnate Aliko Dangote; as well as several current and former governors, ministers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.

Before the burial, President Tinubu had received Buhari’s body at the Katsina Airport.
