Nentawe Yilwatda Elected As New APC National Chairman

Nentawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, has been elected as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His appointment came after members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) voted in his favor during a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, July 24.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, nominated Nentawe Yilwatda for the role.

His nomination was backed by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, and was later approved through a voice vote by NEC members in attendance.

Yilwatda steps into the role at a time when the APC is working to strengthen its grip on power both at the national level and in certain states where recent political shifts have favored the ruling party.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in late 2023. He was nominated on October 23 and officially sworn in on November 4, alongside six other nominees.

Yilwatda, who is 56 years old, replaces Abdullahi Ganduje as APC Chairman following his resignation in June over personal reasons.

After his resignation, the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Dalori, was put in charge of party affairs in the interim.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Tinubu recently appointed Ganduje as the Chairman of the Board for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
