It was gathered that the attack on Wednesday night left one woman dead and three others injured, including his police escort.
According to local sources, the attackers arrived around 10:46 p.m. on July 2, 2025, and opened fire on the property.
The gunfire hit a female relative of Sango, who later died while receiving treatment at Plateau Specialists Hospital in Jos.
Inspector Walba Go Tom, a police officer from the Special Protection Unit Base 4 in Makurdi, who is assigned to the former minister, was also shot during the attack. He is currently in the hospital receiving treatment.
Eyewitnesses say the gunmen attacked the community before targeting the former minister’s home directly.
“The bandits attacked the residence of Chief Damishi Sango in Dalwal village around 1 a.m. this morning, but we heard they started attacking the community from about 11 p.m. on Wednesday night,” the source said.
“When they got to the Chief’s house, they began shooting sporadically. During the assault, one of his female relations was killed, while three other people, including his police orderly, Inspector Walba Go Tom, from the Special Protection Unit Base 4, Makurdi, attached to the former minister, sustained gunshot wounds.
“His service rifle, an assault weapon with a breach number, was taken away by the attackers.
“The female relative of the former minister died while receiving treatment at Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, while the police officer is currently hospitalized and responding to treatment.”
Meanwhile, former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed his condolences to Damishi Sango and his family, calling for justice and better protection for communities across Plateau State.
