Angélique Kidjo Makes History As First African Artist To Receive Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star

Beninese music legend, Angélique Kidjo has made history as the first African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Angélique Kidjo’s star will be unveiled in 2026, as announced by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

The five-time Grammy Award winner will be honored alongside global celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Timothée Chalamet, and Shaquille O’Neal.

With a career spanning over 40 years, Kidjo has become one of Africa’s most celebrated voices on the world stage.

Her music stands out for its unique blend of Afrobeat, traditional West African sounds, jazz, funk, and Latin rhythms — a style that has earned her international acclaim and helped bring African music to global audiences.

Some of her standout albums include Logozo (1991), Black Ivory Soul (2002), Eve (2014), Celia (2019), and Mother Nature (2021), which won her a Grammy.

These albums not only showcased her musical talent but also introduced many listeners around the world to African sounds and stories.

In recent years, Kidjo has also made it a point to collaborate with younger African artists, helping to bridge musical generations.

Her album “Mother Nature” featured names like Burna Boy and Yemi Alade, while later projects included collaborations with Mr Eazi, Davido, and others.

In 2023, she teamed up with Davido on the track “Na Money”, and in 2024, she released “Joy”, an uplifting anthem celebrating unity across Africa.

Beyond her music, Angélique Kidjo is a passionate humanitarian, working as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and running the Batonga Foundation, which supports education and empowerment programs for girls in sub-Saharan Africa.

Angélique Kidjo has spent decades using her voice to uplift others, and her upcoming Walk of Fame honor stands as a testament to her powerful influence both on and off the stage.

KanyiDaily recalls that Afropop singer, Yemi Alade revealed why Angelique Kidjo defeated Wizkid, Femi Kui, and his son, Made Kuti, at the 64th edition of the 2022 Grammy Awards.
