President Tinubu To Address World Leaders At UN General Assembly

President Bola Tinubu is expected to address world leaders at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) holding in New York, United States.

The 80th UNGA started on September 9, while the high-level debate which is the centerpiece of the gathering, will begin on September 23.

This year’s theme is “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.”

According to a revised list of speakers released at the UN headquarters, Tinubu is scheduled to speak on September 24 during the afternoon session.

He is listed as the 17th speaker on Day 2 of the general debate, although the order could change depending on attendance.

The debate will feature 195 global leaders, including 98 heads of state, 44 heads of government, five vice-presidents, four deputy prime ministers, 37 ministers, a crown prince, and four delegation chairs.

The world leaders are expected to outline their priorities and national positions on pressing global issues.

Alongside the debate, several high-level meetings have been scheduled.

On September 22, France and Saudi Arabia will co-chair a conference on Palestine and the two-state solution.

A special session will also be held to mark the UN’s 80th anniversary, where leaders will reflect on the organization’s achievements and push for a stronger multilateral system.

On September 25, discussions will focus on tackling noncommunicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular illnesses, and respiratory conditions, as well as improving mental health. The aim is to adopt a political declaration with targets leading up to 2030.

On September 26, another meeting will mark the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu left Abuja on September 4 for  a 10-day private visit to France and the United Kingdom.

On September 10, he held a lunch meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, where both leaders reviewed key areas of cooperation between Nigeria and France
