Alex Iwobi, who arrived at camp on Sunday with other team members and officials, is among the first set of players lodged at the Rive Hotel, where the Super Eagles are accommodated.
Those already in camp include Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, and Olakunle Olusegun, with full training expected to start on Monday.
The discussion began after Iwobi shared a video on social media showing the dilapidated state of the team’s hotel, scattered laundry, and clear evidence of neglect
The poor condition of the hotel and its environment has since stirred concern among fans about the players’ welfare and the team’s level of preparation for the upcoming match.
This isn’t the first time players have spoken out about substandard treatment or inadequate facilities provided by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Nigeria advanced to the playoff round after finishing second in Group C, securing the spot with a 4–0 victory over the Benin Republic in Uyo.
The Super Eagles will now take on Gabon in the semifinal stage of the playoffs, with the winner facing either DR Congo or Cameroon in the final.
A victory in that final will secure Nigeria a place in the intercontinental playoffs set for March 2026 — the final step toward qualifying for the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
KanyiDaily recalls that Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle recently released a 24-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup African play-offs in Morocco.
