In a statement released on Tuesday through its official X page, the DSS explained that the dismissals were carried out over a period of time as part of broader reforms to clean up its workforce.
The agency also warned the public against dealing with any former personnel who continue to present themselves as serving officers.
“In addition to earlier disclaimers on the duo of Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, the Service finds it necessary to warn citizens of the fraudulent activities of some of these persons still posing as DSS personnel,” the statement read.
The DSS urged Nigerians to always confirm the identity of anyone claiming to work for the Service before engaging with them.
It added that, for transparency, the list of all dismissed officers has been published on its official website, [www.dss.gov.ng](http://www.dss.gov.ng).
“For the sake of clarity, the identities of the dismissed personnel have been published on the website of the Service,” the DSS said.
Earlier, the DSS had raised concerns about two ex-officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who were reportedly using their former positions to defraud unsuspecting individuals.
The agency confirmed that both men have since been arrested and will face prosecution.
This action comes at a time when Nigeria’s security institutions are under increased scrutiny, following several reports of misconduct and procedural breaches within the ranks.
KanyiDaily recalls that the DSS recently alerted the Nigerian Army of a possible plan by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to launch coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi states.
