His confirmation came after a screening session on the Senate floor on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
Born in 1978, Dr. Kingsley Ude previously served as Enugu State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
During the screening, senators asked him questions covering a range of national and international topics.
At one point, Senator Abdul Ningi asked for his opinion on the ongoing “Trump threat” and how he believed the situation could be resolved.
The question caused a brief stir in the chamber, with some lawmakers arguing that Ude had already shown enough competence for the ministerial role and did not need further questioning.
Responding to the inquiry, Ude said President Bola Tinubu was handling the issue through diplomatic channels, adding that it was “more of a diplomatic matter than a legal one.”
Another senator, Adamu Aliero, sought his opinion on whether the offices of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice should be separated.
Ude responded that the effectiveness of either structure depends on the individual in charge and whether they allow political influence to affect their judgment.
Satisfied with his answers, the Senate asked him to “take a bow and leave,” after which his appointment was officially confirmed.
Dr. KingyUde’s nomination follows the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who stepped down from President Tinubu’s cabinet after being linked to a certificate scandal.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Senate also confirmed Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.
