The lawmaker, Kabiru Mikailu, who represents Maru South in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, was confronted and assaulted by residents while accompanying Governor Dauda Lawal on a visit to the community on Wednesday.
Residents accused Mikailu of neglecting the area since he was elected, saying he rarely visited the town or interacted with the people, even during important occasions.
Some community members said he did not attend Sallah celebrations in Dansadau and failed to visit families who lost loved ones during repeated bandit attacks.
In a video, the lawmaker was being slapped and manhandled by the angry mob who were heard shouting “bamayi” in Hausa, a term often used to express rejection or anger.
Security personnel later stepped in to calm the situation and prevent it from getting out of hand.
KanyiDaily also reported how an elderly man, Ladan Zubairu, was killed at the Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters area of Kano.
