Mother Arrested For Using Hot Knife On 7-Year-Old Daughter In Anambra

Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested a 32-year-old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, following allegations that she severely abused her seven-year-old daughter in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The girl, identified as Oluebube Ofoma, was rescued on Sunday, September 13, after community security personnel and residents intervened when the alleged abuse was discovered.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

Ikenga said the command received a report on the evening of September 13 concerning the alleged abuse and serious injuries suffered by the child.

According to the police, preliminary instigation indicated that the girl had suffered severe physical injuries, which were allegedly inflicted with a hot knife.

Community security personnel from Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, alongside concerned residents, reportedly stepped in and rescued the child from further harm.

The girl’s mother was subsequently arrested, while police officers began investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse.

Ikenga said the command would conduct a thorough and professional investigation into the case.

He also assured the public that the safety and welfare of the child remained the priority of the police as the investigation continues.
