Previously, Queen Zaynab Otiti Obanor was married to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, in a traditional ceremony held on March 12, 2016, in Benin City, Edo State, followed by a thanksgiving and reception on March 13, 2016, at the Royal Court of Ife in Osun State.
The marriage was heavily publicised, though the monarch was represented at the traditional rites by his father. Following her marriage to the monarch, she was known as Olori Wuraola.
However, on August 30, 2017, Queen Zaynab officially confirmed via her Instagram account that the marriage had ended. The marriage lasted approximately 17 months.
In her official statement, she addressed rumours of infidelity and infertility, dismissing them as false. She stated, “What I can confirm is that the Ooni and I are no more,” and expressed her intention to continue her work as a humanitarian with the United Nations.
Following the divorce, she reverted to her maiden name, Zaynab Otiti Obanor, and relocated to Doha, Qatar.
Before surfacing as Akume’s new bride, she was widely reported to have married a wealthy Arab prince, with whom she is said to have welcomed a daughter in 2022.
