INEC Recognises Nenadi Usman As Labour Party Leader After Court Order

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognised the Labour Party’s National Working Committee headed by Nenadi Usman.

The electoral body said it acted in line with a court ruling that directed it to recognise the new leadership.

On Friday, January 30, 2026, information published on INEC’s  website listed Nenadi Usman as the chairperson of the party’s caretaker committee.

The updated details also named Senator Darlington Nwokocha as National Secretary, Hamisu Santuraki as National Treasurer, Aisha Madije as National Financial Secretary, and Eric Ifere as National Legal Adviser.

This latest move deepens the ongoing leadership dispute in the Labour Party, a key opposition party in Nigeria.

KanyiDaily recalls that on January 21, the Federal High Court in Abuja affirmed the Nenadi Usman-led committee and removed Julius Abure from his position as national chairman.
