Aunty Ajara’s family confirmed that she passed away in the early hours of Thursday.
The sad news was announced by her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, in an emotional video message to the public.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Ridwan expressed sincere appreciation to colleagues, fans, and well-wishers for their prayers, care, and support during her illness.
Ridwan especially thanked members of the film industry for standing by the family.
He also appealed to the public to stop sending money that was earlier requested to support her medical treatment, explaining that the donations were no longer needed.
“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.
“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”
Aunty Ajara’s illness became widely known last week after fellow actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke made a public appeal for help.
She disclosed that Ajara was seriously ill, placed on oxygen, and receiving intensive medical treatment that required significant funds.
The late actress was well loved for the strong motherly roles she often played in Yoruba films.
She appeared in several notable movies, such as “Gingerrr”, “Queen Lateefah”, and “Isiti”.
In 2024, Aunty Ajara had opened up about a painful personal experience, revealing that she had lost a child in the past.
KanyiDaily had reported how actress Aunty Ramota faced criticism for her alleged unfriendly behavior towards Aunty Ajara.
