Pete Edochie’s Death Rumour Sparks Panic Among Nigerians

A false report claiming that veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie had died at the age of 78 caused widespread panic among Nigerians on social media.

The rumour spread quickly across platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, with some posts even claiming that Pete Edochie had been rushed to a hospital and that his eldest son confirmed his death on Instagram.

As of February 10, 2026, no credible Nigerian or international news outlet had reported the actor’s death.

Verified records and public profiles confirmed that Pete Edochie, born March 7, 1947, is alive.

There has been no official announcement from the Edochie family, who have addressed similar rumours in the past.

This is not the first time such a hoax has appeared. Similar false stories surfaced in 2012 and reappeared several times between 2020 and 2023.

The claims have continued to resurface from time to time, often shared by pages seeking attention and engagement online.

Pete Edochie remains one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, with several awards to his name, including the Member of the Order of the Niger and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award Industry Merit Award.

There is no hospital report, family confirmation, or official statement to support his alleged death.

His fans are urging the public to verify celebrity death news through trusted sources or family statements before sharing, to prevent the spread of misinformation.

KanyiDaily recalls that in 2022, Pete Edochie’s son, Uche also debunked rumours circulating on social media that his father died in a car accident.
