Thomas Frank Sacked As Tottenham Coach After Less Than Eight Months In Charge

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months in charge of the club.

The decision comes shortly after Spurs’ 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday, a result that sparked loud boos from supporters inside the stadium. Some fans called for Thomas Frank to be removed during the match.

It was gathered that the club’s leadership felt his position was no longer sustainable.

Tottenham currently sit 16th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone.

They have managed only two wins in their last 17 league matches, a run that has increased pressure on the coaching staff.

Despite the loss to Newcastle, Frank had indicated he expected to remain in charge for the upcoming north London derby against Arsenal on February 22.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, he said he had recently spoken with the club’s owners and did not believe his job was in immediate danger.

“I spoke to them [the owners] yesterday, so no. I understand the frustration and the easiest thing is to point at me. That’s part of the job unfortunately.

“I will work day and night to turn this around but it is not just one person. There is no doubt we need to improve and I need to be part of that,” he said.

Recent home defeats to Newcastle and struggling West Ham were both met with strong reactions from supporters, further increasing the tension around the club.

In a statement on Wednesday, Tottenham said they had initially planned to give Frank time and backing to shape the team for the future.

However, they explained that recent performances and results forced them to make a change at this stage of the season.

The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” said the club in a statement.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

“However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward.

” We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Frank joined Spurs from Brentford after Ange Postecoglou was dismissed, despite leading Tottenham to Europa League success.

However, the former Brentford manager struggled to win over the Spurs fan base.

His time at the club was marked by disappointing results and a few off-field moments that drew criticism, including being seen with a coffee cup displaying the Arsenal badge.

Thomas Frank won 13 of his 38 matches as Tottenham boss. Following the defeat to Newcastle, his Premier League win rate stood at 26.9 percent — the lowest of any Spurs manager in the Premier League era.

His departure means Tottenham are now looking for their sixth permanent manager since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019.

The next coach will inherit a team that has already been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions.

However, Spurs remain in the Champions League knockout rounds after finishing fourth in the group stage under Frank.

Tottenham’s next match is a Premier League clash at home against Arsenal on Sunday, February 22, before they travel to face Fulham.

KanyiDaily had reported how Tottenham Hotspur sacked manager Ange Postecoglou, just two weeks after he led the club to a Europa League victory.
