Tinubu Directs INEC To Ensure Prompt Transmission Of Results In FCT, Kano, And Rivers Elections

President Bola Tinubu has called for peaceful and order during Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano State and Rivers States.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will oversee election in all six area councils of the FCT, as well as bye-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies in Rivers state, and the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano state.

In a statement on Friday, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser on media and strategy, said the president encouraged all eligible voters to participate without fear.

He stressed that democracy works best in a calm, respectful, and tolerant environment.

President Tinubu urged all eligible voters to come out and vote without fear, emphasising that the democratic process thrives best in an atmosphere of calm, tolerance, and mutual respect,” the statement read.

The president also appealed to political parties, candidates, and their supporters to avoid violence, provocative remarks, or any actions that could compromise the credibility of the elections.

He warned against intimidation, unfair treatment, or any attempt to prevent people from voting, noting that security forces are present to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the ballot.

Tinubu further called on INEC to take steps that build voter confidence, including timely accreditation, smooth voting procedures, accurate counting, and prompt transmission of results, in line with the Electoral Act 2026.

Fellow Nigerians, I assure you that the Federal Government under my administration will continue to support institutions responsible for delivering free, fair, and credible elections,” the statement reads.

“To all residents of the FCT, Kano, and Rivers, I commend your civic consciousness. I am confident that these elections will reflect the will of the people and further strengthen our democratic journey as a nation.”

KanyiDaily recalls that INEC recently released the timetable for 2027 general elections, detailing important dates for voting, party primaries, campaigns, and voter registration.
