The ruling was delivered on Tuesday by the Romsdal District Court, according to reports from TV 2 Norway.
Aside from the jail term, the court also directed the 19-year-old player to pay NOK 10,000 to cover legal expenses requested by prosecutors.
Daniel Daga, who currently plays for Molde FK, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman whose identity was not made public.
The alleged incident took place in April, while formal charges were filed against him on December 19, 2025.
Despite the judgment, his lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said her client maintains that he did nothing wrong.
She insisted that the encounter was consensual and confirmed that they intend to challenge the decision in a higher court.
“He is terribly sorry that the verdict was the way it was,” Bolstad said. “He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent.”
Following the court’s decision, Molde FK announced that the midfielder will no longer take part in matches for the time being.
“Based on the situation and the ongoing legal process, the club has decided that the player will not be part of the match squad until further notice,” the club said.
Daga, who also represents the Nigeria national under-20 football team, joined Molde at the beginning of the 2025 season.
Since arriving at the Norwegian club, he has played 15 matches and scored three goals.
