The attackers reportedly damaged several vehicles and other valuable items during the incident on Saturday.
Gbolarumi is a key member of a faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was scheduled to hold its state congress on Saturday.
It was gathered that at least ten people were injured in different violent incidents that occurred in parts of the state.
However, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the attack on Gbolarumi’s residence was not connected to the party’s state congress.
He said, “A yet-to-be-identified hoodlums launched attacks on the residence of the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi. The coordinated attacks have nothing to do with the state congress.”
He assured that the police had begun investigating the incident, stressing that those responsible would face the law once they are identified.
Meanwhile, Abdulrahman Akinoso, who leads one of the PDP factions in the state, said similar attacks were recorded in other areas, including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Akinyele, and Igboora in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area.
“At least ten people sustained injuries during the violence, while several vehicles were damaged at various locations across the state,” he said.
Akinoso revealed that three vehicles were vandalised at Gbolarumi’s house on Are Avenue in the Bodija area of Ibadan, where members of the faction had gathered for the congress.
The incidents have increased tensions within the party as rival groups continue to struggle for control of the PDP structure in Oyo.
