The directive was announced over the weekend by the Imo State Governor and Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Hope Uzodimma.
Uzodimma explained that the initiative is meant to promote unity and show care for Nigerians during a time that holds strong spiritual meaning for both Muslim and Christian communities.
He said the rice distribution will be organised through the nationwide grassroots network of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors so that households in different parts of the country can benefit during the fasting period.
According to him, the programme is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support citizens during important religious and cultural observances.
Uzodimma also noted that a similar exercise took place during Christmas last year, when rice was distributed to help families celebrating the festive season.
He added that the programme reflects the president’s focus on inclusion, unity and shared national values.
“This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to unity and compassion. Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity and care for one another,” he said.
“Through this distribution, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will ensure that families across Nigeria feel the spirit of togetherness during this sacred period.”
The distribution exercise will be carried out through the organisation’s structures at the state, local government and ward levels to ensure that the rice reaches communities widely and is shared in an open and organised manner.
