Ex-Presidential Aspirant Hayatu-Deen Reveals Why He Dumped PDP For ADC

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He made this known in a statement on Sunday, saying the move was influenced by worsening insecurity, economic difficulties, and what he described as a declining democratic environment in Nigeria.

Hayatu-Deen explained that he chose to move to the ADC because he believes the party offers a better platform to bring real change to the country.

Like many of you, I want a safer, more prosperous future for Nigeria, but the nation faces fundamental problems that are being ignored,” he said.

Reflecting on his political journey, Hayatu-Deen recalled entering the presidential race under the PDP in 2022 with the hope of contributing to Nigeria’s growth.

He said, “This was the motivational force behind my entry into politics in 2022, when I threw my hat into the ring as a presidential aspirant in the PDP in what was then a wide-open democratic space.”

According to him, the hopes many Nigerians had for progress have now turned into deep disappointment, which informed his decision to leave the PDP and join the ADC.

The former banker said people across the country are increasingly calling for leadership that will directly confront pressing issues such as insecurity, high living costs, and unemployment.

“This is why I have taken the decision to join the ADC which I know is the vehicle for change.

“Every day I hear from people across Nigeria that they want a government that is focused on fixing the problems, and delivering a safer and more prosperous future for their families.

“Nigerians want a steady, calm and credible government alternative that will tackle insecurity, reduce the cost of living, and foster job creation; ensuring that our hopes for the future are realised and not forfeited to politics as usual.

“I am also deeply concerned about the increasing shrinkage of our democratic space. Voices are being stifled, institutions are under strain, and the space for credible opposition and real choice is being systematically closed. Democracy must offer Nigerians genuine options,” he said.

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen pledged full commitment to the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections, promising to work actively for the party’s victory.

“From this day onwards until the 2027 elections, I will campaign relentlessly as a party member to help the ADC win the elections and deliver the better future Nigeria desperately deserves,” he said.

I will deploy my business and governmental experience that continues to support millions of jobs in Nigeria.”

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who previously served as chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, had contested for the PDP presidential ticket before the 2023 elections but he later stepped down, citing concerns over the growing monetisation of the party’s primary process.
