FG Amends Charge Against Malami And Son, Removes Terrorism Financing Allegation

The federal government has amended the charges against former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, by removing the count related to terrorism financing.

During Wednesday’s court sitting, Akinlolu Kehinde, lawyer for the Department of State Services (DSS), informed the court that the charge had been amended and asked that the earlier one be replaced.

In the revised charge, the prosecution claimed that firearms and live ammunition were discovered at Malami’s home in Birnin Kebbi.

The new charge now focuses on the alleged illegal possession of firearms.

Lawyer to the defendants, Shaibu Aruwa, confirmed that both Malami and his son had already received the amended charge and raised no objection to it being read in court.

After the amended charge was read, the two defendants pleaded not guilty.

The trial judge, Joyce Abdulmalik, ruled that they should remain on the same bail conditions earlier granted to them on February 27.

The matter was then adjourned to May 26 and June 15 for trial proceedings.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Federal High Court in Abuja previously granted N200 million bail to Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz.
