The Seminole Police Department confirmed that Lil Tjay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, was taken into custody over his alleged involvement in the incident that happened Monday night in the valet area outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.
Police said he was charged with disorderly conduct in relation to the fight that reportedly led to the shooting.
KanyiDaily recalls that Offset was shot in the same valet area at about 7 p.m. and later taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities said the rapper, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, remains in stable condition.
Jail records show that Lil Tjay was booked into Broward County Jail and was being held on a $500 bond as of Tuesday morning.
His lawyer, Dawn M. Florio, denied claims linking him directly to the shooting, insisting that reports suggesting he fired any shots are false.
“Lil Tjay has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting. Any reporting to the contrary is false,” she wrote in a Monday statement on Instagram.
“We encourage people to consult trusted news sources, and to verify the accuracy of any reporting, before reflexively sharing or repeating baseless rumors.”
Police spokesperson Gary Bitney explained that the situation started as a fight, adding that another person who was initially detained at the scene has not been charged.
Bitney added that an “investigation to identify one or more additional persons involved in the incident is ongoing.”
Lil Tjay is known for hit songs like F.N. and Calling My Phone, while Offset rose to fame as a member of Migos.
KanyiDaily recalls that another member of the Migos group, Takeoff, was fatally shot in 2022.
