Mercy Aigbe Repaid Me With Evil After I Brought Her To Nollywood – Olaide Olabanji

Nigerian filmmaker Olaide Olabanji has accused Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe of repaying him with evil after he helped her get into the movie industry.

Speaking in a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, the movie producer explained that he first introduced Mercy Aigbe to the film industry in 2004 through his younger sister.

Olaide Olabanji, the CEO of LAIBAN Film International, said he often visited his sister in Ifako, where Aigbe lived in the same building.

He recalled one occasion when he met the actress in a small shop outside the house and asked if she was interested in acting.

The filmmaker added that he could easily have charged her for helping her get started, but he chose to assist her without asking for money.

He further explained that while picking up equipment in Yaba one day, he later discovered the supplier was Aigbe’s brother, who also appealed to him to support her acting ambition.

“I brought Mercy Aigbe into the film industry in 2004. She was a neighbour of my sibling in Ifako. She was leaving downstairs, while my younger one lived upstairs. Most of the people in the industry know this is my sister. I often see her whenever I visit my sister,” he said.

“There was a time I visited her when she was inside a shop that was built outside the house she was living in. I asked her if she can act. She already told my sister that she wants to act. I told my sister that if I had not called her myself, I would have collected money from her.

“The day I went to collect equipment at the Yaba area, I discovered the person was Mercy’s brother. The brother asked me to help her.”

Olabanji expressed disappointment that some actresses, after becoming successful, often forget the people who helped them at the beginning of their careers.

“Ladies of this age must learn from that thing,” he said,, claiming that Aigbe later became hostile toward him.

According to him, she allegedly tried to block him from reaching certain influential contacts, including one of her associates in the United Kingdom who had initially contacted him about producing two movies.

He claimed she later attempted to cut off that relationship, but despite that, he still went ahead to produce the films, which he said turned out to be profitable.

“There were some places she would be blocking me. I helped you, but you are paying back with evil. Ladies easily forget things. It looks like she does not want me to exist,” he said.

“She has a friend in the UK who called me to say that she wanted to make two films. The person asked me now if she could promote my movie on her page. I later discovered that she tried to sever my ties with the person.

“I later produced the two movies for the person, and they were profitable.

“Let us just be good. There is nothing people cannot do to get fame or success. We worked for like four years. There are people who are angry about your existence.”

Olaide Olabanji, who has been producing films since 1993, is known for works such as “Boya Lemo” (2002) and “Sebeeyan Ni” (2005).
