“The System Is Dealing With You Now” — Sowore Taunts Malami In Court [Video]

Omoyele Sowore, an activist and ex-presidential candidate, has mocked former attorney-general of the federation,  Abubakar Malami over his current legal troubles.

Sowore reminded Malami of his role in prosecuting him during the administration of ex-president Muhammadu Buhari.

Malami served as attorney-general and minister of justice between 2015 and 2023 under Buhari.

He is now facing a 16-count charge related to alleged money laundering filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On April 15, the federal government revised the charges against Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, removing the allegation of terrorism financing.

Sowore himself had faced serious charges, including treason, during Buhari’s time in office.

He was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in August 2019 after calling for protests and spent over four months in detention.

The activist was later rearrested in December 2019 and again held in early 2021.

The two men unexpectedly crossed paths at a court lobby in Abuja, where Sowore used the moment to reflect on the past.

Sowore reminded Malami that he once accused him of treason, adding that the situation has now changed, as Malami is the one facing prosecution.

“When you were in Buhari’s government, you were saying Sowore committed treason. See as they are dealing with you now,” Sowore said as he pumped fists with Malami.

Sowore even offered Malami a “Revolution Now” cap, saying they were now on the same side and joking about recruiting him into his movement.

“Let us give him a revolution cap. We want to recruit you now that you know that there is failure in the system,” Sowore said.

Abubakar Malami declined the gesture, saying “I have my own cap”.

Sowore continued to tease him, saying the system was now turning against him and that their roles had reversed.

“The system is dealing with you now. When I was coming to court and told you that this thing would end in disgrace.. we are now on the same side. Your table has turned to our side,” he said.

Malami, however, responded firmly, insisting he would not be brought down and saying situations can always change with time.

“I can never be down as far as Nigeria is concerned.The table has its own wheel,” Malami interjected defiantly.

Omoyele Sowore also asked if he still attends meetings of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Malami replied that he does, although he missed a recent summit in Ibadan.

He added that circumstances may shift, but he remains steady regardless of the situation.

“I have been attending, even though I couldn’t attend the Ibadan summit. Tables keep turning and I will keep sitting by the table,” Malami replied.
