He made the announcement on Wednesday at the Paddington mini stadium on Western Avenue, where the primary election was taking place.
The actor-turned-politician said several of his supporters were blocked from entering the venue.
Desmond Elliot said he had repeatedly asked electoral officials to allow them in, but nothing was done.
He said,“And of course, in all zones, they’ve been intimidating and stopping us.
“I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race. This is my ward. If you go outside, those are my people outside.
Shortly before stepping down, he stressed that those outside were his people but were not allowed access to vote.
” Good luck. Thank you, and God bless you,” he told party members after stepping down from the race.
Elliot said he chose to withdraw to prevent any possible violence, noting that no political contest is worth risking lives.
He also urged the APC leadership to make sure the primary elections across the state are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
Following his withdrawal, his supporters held a calm protest and began leaving the area with him.
KanyiDaily recalls that Desmond Elliot recently picked up the APC nomination form to contest for the fifth time in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency I.
