Last weekend, Cubana was unable to secure the party’s nomination for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East federal constituency ahead of the coming elections.
The businessman had earlier revealed that he stepped down from the race shortly before voting started after holding discussions with party leaders about zoning arrangements that did not favour his local government.
Speaking during a live session on Twitch with streamer Peller, Cubana Chief Priest claimed that his past support for Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election may be part of the reason he is viewed with doubt.
He explained that although he backed Obi in the last election, he does not believe the former Labour Party presidential candidate has what it takes to win in 2027.
“As I am now, Tinubu does not really trust me because I am an Igbo man that I am. He is looking at me with one eye that ‘this one that I once worked for Peter Obi’. I worked for Obi during the last election.
“I checked it, and I do not want to lose again. Because they say the first fool is not a fool, it is only on the second time you become a proper fool.
“Peter Obi cannot win. I do not see him ready. The people who are more ready will win.
“This is strategy and a game plan. I have calculated that I do not want to fumble again,” he said.
Cubana added that party leaders advised him to withdraw from the primaries, telling him that “it wasn’t yet his time.”
