Court Revokes Sowore’s Bail, Orders His Arrest Over Failure To Appear In Court

A Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the bail earlier granted to activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

The court also issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear for his scheduled hearing on Tuesday.

Sowore is currently facing a two-count charge filed by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The charges are linked to a post he made on X in August 2025, where he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” while reacting to the president’s comments on corruption during an official visit to Brazil.

The activist had pleaded not guilty to the allegations and filed a no-case submission, asking the court to dismiss the charges against him, but the application was rejected by the court in May.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, neither Sowore nor his lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, was present in court.

Counsel to the DSS, Kehinde Akinlolu, informed the court that Sowore was aware of the hearing date but failed to attend.

Akinlolu urged the court to revoke the activist’s bail, alleging that Sowore had been employing tactics aimed at delaying the trial and had again failed to appear before the court.

In his ruling, Justice Mohammed Umar said Sowore had written to the court requesting that the matter be adjourned.

However, the judge noted that the letter did not state any reason for the request.

Based on his absence and the circumstances surrounding the application for adjournment, the court revoked Sowore’s bail and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Justice Umar subsequently adjourned the case until June 22 for further proceedings.

KanyiDaily recalls that Omoyele Sowore was recently taken to a hospital after collapsing during a Democracy Day protest at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
