Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis Found Guilty Of Killing Tupac Shakur

A jury has convicted former Los Angeles-area gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis over the 1996 killing of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur.

Tupac was shot in a drive-by attack in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, while he was in the city to attend a heavyweight boxing match involving Mike Tyson.

The rapper, who was 25 years at the time, was placed on life support but died six days later from his injuries.

Davis, 63, was arrested in September 2024, nearly three decades after the rapper’s death.

His trial began in a Las Vegas court in August, 2026, following jury selection.

At the beginning of the trial, Davis pleaded not guilty to a murder charge involving the use of a deadly weapon and alleged gang activity.

Prosecutor Binu Palal told the court that Davis was angry with Tupac following an earlier confrontation involving Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, Davis’ nephew.

According to the prosecution, Davis obtained a firearm and gave it to Anderson, who was allegedly involved in the shooting at Tupac’s vehicle.

Palal said gang members had remained silent about the killing for years because, in that environment, keeping quiet was seen as a way to stay alive.

He, however, argued that Davis eventually broke that silence through interviews and a book in which he discussed his alleged involvement.

After closing arguments, jurors returned to deliberate on Monday. They spent about three hours considering the case before reaching a guilty verdict.

The 12-member jury found Davis guilty of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, with the crime linked to promoting, furthering or assisting criminal gang activity.

When the verdict was announced, the jury foreperson told the court that Davis was guilty of murder with the use of a deadly weapon.

“Count one, murder with use of a deadly weapon, guilty of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon,” the foreperson of the jury announced to the court.

Davis, dressed in a black suit, stood beside his lawyer as the decision was read. He later returned to his seat and clasped his hands on the table.

The conviction means Duane “Keffe D” Davis could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny has scheduled Davis’ sentencing for October 13.
