Pastor Jerry Eze Refunds N1.64m A Woman Mistakenly Transferred To His Bank Account

A single mother of two, Sandra Okpara, has received a refund of N1,640,200 after she accidentally transferred the money to an account connected to Pastor Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International.

The refund came a day after Okpara’s appeal for help went viral on social media.

Okpara explained in a video posted on Friday that the money did not belong to her.

She said she was holding the funds on behalf of people she was supposed to pay and needed help recovering the money.

She appealed to anyone who could reach the church to assist her in tracing the transaction.

Okpara later told PUNCH Online that she had made a N1,000 offering to the church earlier that day.

She said she then intended to transfer more than N1.6 million to a Zenith Bank account but accidentally selected the wrong account.

According to her, she only discovered the mistake after checking the transfer receipt.

She initially visited Zenith Bank to try to recover the funds but was unsuccessful.

She then went to Moniepoint, where a complaint was filed, but she was told that a court order might be required.

Unable to find a direct way to contact the church, Okpara said she eventually turned to Pastor Jerry Eze’s online prayer platform.

She said the mistake left her distressed because she believed there was little chance of getting the money back.

Okpara later decided to make a public appeal online, hoping that the video would be shared widely and eventually reach people connected to the church.

Streams of Joy International became aware of the video and contacted Okpara.

In a statement posted on X on Saturday, the church confirmed that it had returned the money after checking the transaction and verifying the circumstances surrounding it.

“We have transferred her money back to her,” Streams of Joy International said.

The church said its official communication channels remained available for people to report mistaken payments or other transaction-related issues.

Streams of Joy also said it had not received any direct complaint from Okpara before she posted the video online.

“Upon becoming aware of the video, we immediately attempted to contact her through the phone number provided and via direct message,” the church said.

According to the church, it tried to contact her after seeing the video and eventually received a response from her.

The money was then returned after the necessary checks were completed.

Okpara confirmed that she had received the full refund.

She said a member of the church’s staff contacted her at about 6:22am on Saturday, after which the money was returned.

“I had to do the video to push out for people to share it, and it happened. And to the glory of God, around 6.22 this morning, one of their staff member called me, and I was refunded,” she said.

Okpara explained that her decision to post the video was mainly to get help from the public in tracing the funds.

She stressed that she did not intend to damage the reputation of Pastor Jerry Eze or Streams of Joy International.

“That’s the power of social media. It’s not because I want to do it to tarnish Pastor Jerry’s image,” she said.
