Congratulations to Missy Elliott!
Though this should come as no surprise know fully well that Missy Elliott broke barriers and solidifying her place as one of the greatest female rappers of all time.
Pitchfork is reporting that rap icon has been announced as one of the nominees for this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame, making her the first female rapper to make the prestigious list.
Other stars who were nominated alongside Missy include Mariah Carey, John Prine, the Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, ELO’s Jeff Lynne, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, and Cat Stevens.
Following the news, Elliott tweeted Wednesday, “I am Humbly Grateful to be nominated with so many other AMAZING writers. Congratulations to all of them also.”
Missy’s inclusion comes one year after JAY-Z became the first rapper to be inducted.
Only six songwriters, or songwriting groups, will be inducted into the organization. Those who are chosen will be inducted at the 50th annual Induction & Awards Gala in New York on June 13, 2019.
