Eight days after holing up at his residence to avoid arrest by policemen for alleged culpable homicide, controversial Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye has left his Maitama home to meet with the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, at the Force headquarters.
It was gathered that senators who visited the lawmaker at his residence on Friday went with Melaye to see the Police boss, apparently to resolve his issues with the Force.
On December 28, 2018, the controversial Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, cried out to the general public that the over 50 Nigerian Police invaded his Abuja residence at Number 11 Sangha street, off Mississippi, Maitama.
According to them, Melaye and his armed thugs shot one Sergeant Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force who was on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State on July 19, 2018.
However, on Tuesday evening, January 1st, 2019, rather than debunk or admit the allegations made by the police, the Senator compared himself and his challenges to the biblical Prophet Elijah, and maintained that he will continue to remain in his hideout because there is a difference with being scared and being wise.
The senator has finally surrendered to the Nigerian Police after being visited by his fellow lawmakers on Friday, January 4, 2019.
Although Senator Melaye had earlier said in an interview with Channels TV on Saturday, December 29th, that he was not in the Abuja house at the moment and would make himself available once he returns. However, the police said he opened the door to the residence himself at about 3 pm on Friday, January 4, 2019.
That means that Melaye, who represents Kogi West in the National Assembly, had actually barricaded himself in his home for days and refused to surrender for arrest.
