A member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Muhammed Gudaji Kazaure, has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s reappointment of Godwin Emefiele as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This is coming barely 24 hours after the confirmation of Emefiele by the Senate as CBN Governor for a second term following his nomination by President Buhari.
Addressing journalists at the National Assembly on Wednesday, May 15, Kazaure said reappointing Emefiele means, “instead of next level, we are going back level.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, said he is convinced that the president was misled into reappointing Emefiele.
According to him, Emefiele should have been shown the way out of the CBN for his role in the alleged financial heist that occurred in the Goodluck Jonathan’s government.
Kazaure said even though he believes that the president is a man of integrity and a key figure in the fight against corruption, he erred in reappointing Emiefiele.
He argued that things are getting worse by the day, adding that the Dollar to Naira exchange rate has not improved under the leadership of the present CBN governor. His said:
“The president himself is aware of the mess that happened during the PDP administration, the monies that went through CBN, spent by Emefiele.
“But the president never sacked him, but allowed him to finish his first tenure and now a man of integrity, who is fighting corruption and we have confidence in him, how can he reappoint him.
“If there is possibility to reverse the appointment and look for somebody with integrity to come and try.”
