NEPA Official Stabbed To Death While Disconnecting Electricity In Abuja, One Other Injured

An aggrieved customer has killed an official of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and injured one other for disconnecting their light in Kabusa area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The AEDC officials were on duty on Tuesday disconnecting the electricity of customers who failed to pay their bills before a man came from behind to stab two of them.

The Head of Corporate Commission of AEDC, Oyebode Fadipe, who confirmed the attack, said one of the officials died, but the other is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.

“Preliminary report has however confirmed the death of one person while the other is in the hospital,” Fadipe said.

“The official did not even visit the customers house to disconnect his power supply. But he just attacked them from behind. Members of the community later overpowered him.”

The body of the deceased AEDC official has been deposited at the mortuary in Garki Hospital, Area 8, Abuja.

Fadipe noted that officials of the electricity company have been under a series of vicious attacks recently.

“Our officials have been under series of vicious attacks recently. In Minna, Niger state, one Iliasu Ayuba, superintendent of customs, attacked our staff with a gun. In Mararaba, one Ibrahim Babangida, an army corporal, beat up our female staff. At Jikwoyi, a widow and her daughter attacked one of the staff. In Ado, another one was stabbed.

“The attacks were quite serious and have caused serious body injuries to our staff.”

The company’s Spokesman said the AEDC would pursue this case until the assailants and murderer are prosecuted and will no longer take this recurrent attack on their officials lightly.

Fadipe however added that it wasn’t a matter of good training of their staff, saying they are “trained regularly in dealing with the public.”
