Hushpuppi: FBI Agents Meets IGP To Demand Abba Kyari’s Arrest And Extradition To US

FBI agents visited the IGP on Thursday and Friday to convince him to release the Abba Kyari for trial in the US.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is reportedly mounting pressure on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, over the extradition of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, to the United States.

KanyiDaily had reported how Kyari was indicted by the U.S. authorities in an investigation of alleged multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by a suspected internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly called Hushpuppi.

Abba Kyari was said to have allegedly collected a bribe from Hushpuppi to jail and torture one of his associates after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on a Qatari businessman.

FBI Agents Meets IGP Over Abba Kyari’s Arrest, Extradition

SaharaReporters quoted a source saying that operatives of the FBI visited the IGP on Thursday and Friday to convince him to release the Abba Kyari for trial in the US.

The source said: “FBI agents met with the IGP yesterday (Thursday) to demand Abba Kyari’s arrest and extradition to the United States citing the urgency of the case.

“Four FBI agents returned to the IG’s office this (Friday) morning, they are there asking the IGP to release Kyari for interrogation.”

Another source close to the force headquarters at Louis Edet House told LEADERSHIP newspaper that the IGP is insisting on a thorough investigation before any action is taken on Kyari.

He said: “The IGP is mindful of a situation where there may be a grand conspiracy against DCP Abba Kyari and so he wants to be sure that the matter is such that would require Kyari to go and clear himself.

“Don’t forget that Kyari is a police officer of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force is also responsible for accounting for him and as such the right thing needs to be done before he is handed to US federal police.”

US Court Orders Arrest Of Abba Kyari

The meeting comes after the Us District Court for the Central District of California ordered the FBI to arrest the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Nigeria.

Otis Wright of the US District Court in California ordered the FBI to track down Kyari and produce him in the United States for his role in a multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by Hushppupi and his co-conspirators.

IGP Reviews FBI’s Allegation Against Abba Kyari

meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baa has ordered an internal review of the allegations preferred against DCP Abba Kyari by the FBI.

The IGP noted that no stone will be left unturned in unearthing the truth in the bribery allegations. He promised to continue working with the FBI and other international crime fight agencies to curb criminal activities.
