Ohanaeze Appoints Ex-Governor To Lead Delegation To Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial

Ohanaeze also warned FG against any plot to arrest, intimidate or harass IPOB members who will attend Nnamdi Kanu’s trial.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has appointed a former Anambra State Governor, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, to lead the delegation to the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

KanyiDaily recalls that Nnamdi Kanu was extradited to Nigeria on Sunday, June 27, to face trial after he jumped bail and fled the country in 2017.

The IPOB leader will be arraigned in court on Monday, July 26, 2021, for a continuation of his trial. He is facing charges of treasonable felony, illegal arms possession and terrorism.

According to Vanguard, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide President General, Prof George Obiozor, has appointed Ezeife to lead its delegation to court on Monday to monitor proceedings in Kanu’s case.

Ohanaeze also named the National Legal Adviser, Barrister Joseph Ojobu and Chief Goddy Uwazuri, as the lawyers who would representing the group on a watching brief.

Ohanaeze Warns FG Against Plot To Arrest IPOB Members In Court

Ohanaeze also warned the Federal Government against any plot to arrest, intimidate or harass IPOB members who will be in court tomorrow to witness Kanu’s trial.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide had cautioned against any form of intimidation, oppression, and arrest of any member of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra or Nnamdi Kanu’s sympathizers at Abuja during the opening of the retrial case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on Monday 26th July 2021.”

“The International Community is watching and waiting to see if there will be human rights violations and abuses in Abuja Federal High Court Premises, as there will be attempts to resist the massive crowd that will flood to witness if Mazi Nnamdi Kanu gets a fair trial.”

“We wish to categorically warn that at no time had the two apex organs in Ohanaeze Ndigbo “Ime Obi and General Assembly” authorized anyone to act on behalf of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization to “observe, interfere and infiltrate in the legal proceedings and retrial of Nnamdi Kanu.”

The group, in signed by the Secretary-General of the group, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro; also called for the intervention of Governors and Igbo leaders to prevail on President Buhari to seek an ‘out-of-court’ settlement with Kanu.

“We are calling for the quick political intervention of Southeastern Governors and Igbo politicians to persuade President Muhammadu Buhari to pursue and “Out-Of-Court” settlement in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as IPOB members should desist from any form of protests and processions as it will the backstage activities to give Nnamdi Kanu soft landing and expose the lives of young people to their early Graves as Security Agents are positioned to ruthlessly deal with any Biafra agitators on protests.”, the statement read.
