Man Beats Okada Operator To Death For Refusing To Give Him A Ride In Ogun

Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Michael Salako, for allegedly beating a motorcyclist to death because he refused to give him a ride at Sanni Street, Lafenwa, Abeokuta.

The command spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, Lafenwa Divisional Headquarters, around noon on the day of the incident that an Okada rider had been beaten to death.

“Upon the distress call, the DPO, CSP Samuel Aladegoroye, mobilised his men and moved to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, the suspect, who claimed to have known the deceased in their community, informed the police that he asked the motorcyclist to convey him somewhere with his motorcycle the previous day and the deceased refused.

“He stated further that when he saw him the following day, he was trying to ask him the reasons for refusing to convey him to his destination the previous day and the altercation resulted in a fight between them.

“While the fight was going on, the deceased collapsed and passed away. The corpse of the victim, simply identified as Abudu, has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.”

Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
