Sanwo-Olu Names Survivors Of Ikoyi Building Collapse As Death Roll Rises To 22

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has released the names of those who have so far been rescued after a 21-storey building collapsed in Gerrard Road in Ikoyi.

KanyiDaily had reported how the 21-storey building, which was under construction, collapsed at Gerald street in Ikoyi on Monday afternoon, November 1.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) told AFP on Wednesday that they had recovered 22 dead bodies so far and rescued nine people who survived as efforts intensify to rescue more persons.

“We recovered two male bodies early this morning, bringing the toll to 22,”  Ibrahim Farinloye, the spokesperson for NEMA (south-west) told AFP.

Speaking during his visit at the scene of the incident on Wednesday, November 3, Governor Sanwo-Olu listed the names and ages of the survivors found under the rubble of the building.

Among the nine people who survived that crash, the governor said that six of them are still being treated, while three others who he did not disclose their names, have been discharged.

Below is the list of survivors of the Ikoyi building collapse:

1. Odutan Timileyin is a 26-year-old man.

2. Ahmed Kenleku: A 19-year-old man from Cotonou, the Benin Republic.

3. Sunday Monday: The 21-year-old had a leg fracture.

4. Adeniran Mayowa: This survivor, the governor noted, suffered a hip injury.

5. Shola Bade Nurudeen: He is 33 and had a pelvic injury.

6. Waliu Lateef is 32-year-old.

KanyiDaily recalls that while speaking on the Ikoyi building collapse, Governor Sanwo-Olu admitted that “mistakes were made from all angles” leading to the unfortunate incident.
