Yoruba Nation Agitator, Sunday Igboho Released From Prison In Benin Republic

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Ighoho, has been released by the Government of Republic of Benin after spending over 231 days in prison.

KanyiDaily had reported how Sunday Igboho was arrested on July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

Igboho was arrested with his Germany-based wife, Ropo, at the airport while they reportedly tried to catch an Air France flight to Germany around 8 pm on Monday.

Although the Cour De’appal De Cotonou ruled that Ropo should be released unconditionally as there were no charges against her, Igboho was taken to detention, where he has been since his trial.

The agitator was charged to court for illegal migration, dubious connivance with immigration officers, and an attempt to cause civil unrest in Niger Republic.

The statement issued by Ilana Omo Oodua’s spokesperson, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, was titled, ‘Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo Ighoho released to Yoruba leader, Banji Akintoye; French language expert, Adeniran by the Benin Republic Government’.

The statement read, “Yoruba Nation Activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Sunday Ighoho, has been released by the Government of Republic of Benin.

“The Activist was released on Monday to a Yoruba Leader and Leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert/ Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Wale Adeniran.
