Abaribe Dumps PDP, Seeks APGA Ticket To Compete With Ikpeazu For Senate Seat

The Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and resigned as Senate Minority Leader in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

Enyinnaya Abaribe Dumps PDP For APGA

The development comes two days after the lawmaker withdrew from the Abia PDP governorship primary election due to “imaginary” delegates which he described as a “charade”.

Abaribe, in his resignation letter addressed to Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, said his exit from the party means he has relinquished his position as minority leader in the upper legislative chamber.

“This is to notify you and my dear colleagues in the senate that I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party through my ward. This also means my resignation as minority leader of the senate.

“I wish to thank you and my dear colleagues in the leadership of the senate for the warm camaraderie we enjoyed while I was minority leader,” Abaribe said.

It was gathered that Abaribe is seeking to return to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

He will lock horns with Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who recently clinched the PDP ticket for the Abia south senatorial district election.

Meanwhile, former Vice-Chancellor of the Abia State University in Uturu, Professor Uche Ikonne has won the PDP governorship ticket for the 2023 general elections.
