President Buhari Tweets For First Time Since He Lifted Restriction On Twitter In Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally used Twitter for the first time since he lifted the restriction on the microblogging platform in Nigeria.

Buhari Assures Victory Against Terrorism

KanyiDaily recalls that the Nigerian government had suspended Twitter on June 4, 2021, after it removed a post from President Buhari that threatened to punish regional secessionists “in the language they understand”.

After seven months, President Buhari finally approved the lifting of the suspension on the Twitter operations in Nigeria, effective from midnight on January 13, 2022.

Taking to his Twitter page on Monday, May 2, Buhari sent his best wishes to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world to end the Holy month of Ramadan as they mark the Eid Mubarak.

The president spoke of how the fight against Boko Haram has been long and hard, but boasted that the final victory over terrorists in the country is near.

He tweeted, “After a period of fasting and reflection, this year, we have cause to welcome the occasion in hope. The battle waged against terrorists who falsely masquerade under the name of Islam is approaching its conclusion.

“The fight has been long and hard. Final victory is within sight. Boko Haram and its offshoots’ final embers are now fading. Last month, the leader of ISWAP was killed in an airstrike. Since the New Year, thousands of fighters have surrendered.

“The territories they used to occupy are now seeing the return of those who were forced to flee their barbarity. Normality is finally beginning to return to the Northeast. It is a long process. Yet it is one we are, together, now embarking upon.

“With the designation of bandit groups as terrorists, the challenges of banditry & kidnapping are being tackled differently in the north-west and north-central where the latest military acquisitions and armed forces are being fanned out across the region to thwart acts of terror.”

KanyiDaily recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had also warned those planning to rig the 2023 elections to reconsider their decision because he will protect and defend the will of Nigerians.
