May D Claims He Brought Amapiano To Nigeria Before Davido, Wizkid And Burna Boy

Nigerian singer, May D has joined the arguements about the South African Amapiano sound, claiming he was the first artiste to bring the music genre into the Nigerian music industry.

Davido And DJ Maphorisa Fight Over Amapiano Sound

Following the release of an Amapiano-themed song titled “Bad To Me” by Wizkid, many music fans have been at loggerhead over who gave the genre its first thrust towards the limelight.

Some fans had credited Davido for being the pioneer of Amapiano in Africa before Wizkid and Burna Boy jumped on the South African sound.

But South African record producer, DJ Maphorisa affirmed that it was indeed Wizkid and Burna Boy who pioneered Amapiano in Africa, following their feature on the song “Sponono”.

Davido reacted to the matter by accusing DJ Maphorisa of disliking him, but kept mum on the subject of the debate.

May D Claims He Brought Amapiano To Nigeria

Taking to his Twitter page, the singer argued that he introduced the music genre to Nigeria before Davido and he has awards to back up his claim.

The singer, who also blasted the Twitter users criticising his stance on the matter, said that it was after his initial efforts that Davido came into the scene.

May D Wrote: “Na me bring Amapiano come naija, and I have awards to prove that! We started the Naija South African collaboration! I don’t like saying sh*t like this but y’all like putting me under the box…After me was David”

“Don’t have time to hate, just spitting facts that’s all, you can insult me all you want, really don’t care we legends out there,” he added.

KanyiDaily recalls that in 2020, Davido signed May D to his record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) which was arguably one of Nigeria’s most thriving music labels.
