Kanyi Daily earlier reported that Pele, who was a three-time World Cup winner died last Thursday aged 82 at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

The football star had been treated for colon cancer, following surgery to remove a tumour in September 2021, and had required regular medical treatment.

After being admitted back into the hospital at the end of November to re-evaluate his cancer treatment, he was diagnosed with a respiratory infection before subsequently being moved to palliative care when his body became unresponsive to chemotherapy.

The news of his death was confirmed by his daughter, Kely Nascimento on Instagram.

In Brazil, a 24-hour public wake began on Monday at the Santos’ Urbano Caldeira Stadium in honour of the “King of football.”

Speaking at the procession, Infantino identified the best way to immortalise Pele and his impact on football.

“We’re going to ask every country in the world to name one of their football stadiums with the name of Pele,” the FIFA president said.

Reports say Pele’s coffins will on Tuesday, be carried through the streets of the city of Santos.

The walk will continue to his final resting place at the Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica cemetery, where family members will hold a private funeral.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has said former president, Olusegun Obasanjo should not be attacked over his endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.
