The command spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this to journalists, said the police killed one of the gunmen while several others sustained injuries during the shooting incident which happened in the wee hours of Monday.
Ikenga said the deceased, who stormed the area with his gang in a Toyota Hiace bus, a Toyota Hilux, and three motorcycles, attempted to gain access to the police station when he was shot dead.
He added that no loss of life was recorded on the part of the police, adding that the area has been reinforced by the Command’s tactical teams.
He said: “Today 13/2/2023 by 2:15 am, Police Operatives foiled an attack by armed men on the Ogidi Police station, demobilize one of the armed men, and recovered many expanded cartridges and 25 litres of PMS.
“The hoodlums/arsonists came in their numbers with an unmarked Toyota Hiace bus, a Toyota Hilux and three motorcycles, started shooting indiscriminately and attempted to gain access in Ogidi Police Station, Idemili North.
“They were fiercely resisted by Police Officers on duty and due to the superior gunfire of the operatives, the hoodlums flee the scene while one of the armed men was neutralized by the operatives.
“The Police facility is intact and no casualty was recorded on the side of the Police. The area has been reinforced by the Tactical teams of the command, and operation is still ongoing.”
