JUST IN: Kidnapped NPC Official, Gloria Izonfuo Regains Freedom

A Federal Commissioner with the National Population Commission (NPC) in Bayelsa State, Gloria Izonfuo, abducted some five days ago by gunmen, has regained her freedom.

Reports say Izonfuo, who is also a former Head of Service in Bayelsa State was kidnap at the Ogbakiri junction in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State while returning from a trip in Brass, Bayelsa state last Sunday.

She spent five days in the captivity of the criminals.

Gloria Izonfuo, alongside her driver and maid, was whisked away by the gunmen.

As of Monday, the abductors are said to have made contact with the family and demanded N500 million as ransom.

Her release was confirmed by the Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko on Friday.

“Yes, she was released this morning (Friday). An investigation is still ongoing to apprehend the kidnappers and make them face justice,” Iringe-Koko stated.

Iringe-Koko did not, however, state whether Izonfuo’s driver and maid were also released.

It is also not clear if any ransom was paid.

This is a developing story. More details shortly.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that the Nigerian Air Force says it will begin airlifting Nigerian evacuees from Egypt today, Friday, April 28th.

This is amid the crisis rocking the North African country of Sudan.
