Nigeria Police Officers Assault Two Suspects With Machete As Imo State Command Reacts

A viral video has shown the moment some police officers were captured assaulting two unidentified men at an open undisclosed location.

The Imo State Police Command has therefore condemned the assault on the two men.

This was contained in a statement issued by the command’s Spokesman, Henry Okoye on Friday.

In the viral video, some officers are seen assaulting the two boys, while another officer pulls out a machete and repeatedly smacks the men with the machete.

Okoye stated that the officers’ behaviour was “totally unacceptable” and that an investigation to identify the officers in the video had begun.

He wrote, “This is totally unacceptable, it’s not our standards.  Imo Police Command is aware of this obscene video and we are currently investigating to identify the team of officers.

“The victims of this harassment are encouraged to reach me. Justice must prevail!!”

In a second statement, the police image maker disclosed that the officers in the video have been identified.

According to him, the officers were identified to be a detachment of one of the Command’s Tactical teams comprising six (6) police officers led by Inspector Sunday Amadi.

The statement reads, “They have been defaulted for Discreditable/Unprofessional Conduct, Improper Dressing, Incivility to and Assaulting the duo suspects namely; Ikechukwu Ajiegbu ‘m’ and Ugochukwu Ajiegbu ‘m’ who were allegedly seen in an identified hard drug black-spot situated at Uretta, Owerri, unlawfully in possession of weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and ‘Crystal Meth’ hard drug. I.e. methamphetamine aka ‘Mpuru Mmiri’; with a ‘Cutlass’ which is not one of the Police accoutrement while trying to apprehend them on 20/04/2023 at about 1400hrs.

“While the investigation continues, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde PSC(+), who is a disciplinarian and defender of fundamental human rights has ordered that prompt Orderly Room Trial should commence against the erring officers and that necessary disciplinary actions be taken if found guilty.”

He called on members of the public to remain calm as further developments on the orderly room trial and disciplinary actions will be communicated back to them.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that despite pleading to be his first time at committing fraud, an internet fraudster, better known as “Yahoo Boy”, Austine Famaa has been convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment for impersonation.
